An inner dialogue

I. In the object called “Leaned Airwards”, what is the figure inclining toward?

It’s leaning into the space where all possibilities exist before they come into manifestation. A thread leads upward from the face of the conical figure. This vertical line orients the body in the void and enables it to endure in such an extreme position.

II. What is the significance of the recurring oval shape that you call “Elliptical Self”?

In a dream I saw a radiant sphere. As it flew through space it took on an elliptical shape. The speed of its journey elongated its roundness. I had the impression that perception in motion takes on this form. At the same time, the thought arose that this is the body of our first emergence, which exists in the realm of ideas, prior to experience.

III. Inherent to your sculptures is the will to take on a particular posture. They evoke a corresponding gaze from their onlooker.

I am interested in the viewpoint that one can take towards the self, towards others, and towards the unknown. The angle, the axis and the steps determine the relationships between the forms. The answers come from an imaginary plane and have an effect upon life.

IV. Your materials are almost always pale. Why are there no colors?

I like what is newly born, before it has taken on color. Perhaps because it gives information about a condition that has not yet accumulated anything external from the world.

The essential task is to find this inner place, which has no history.

Tamara Ralis' objects are miniature platforms with events reduced to a few objects. With their stage-like appearance and minimal punctuation, they belong to the art of "ars-metaphysica". The objects impress with the specific arrangement of the objects, which are related to each other through the emptiness of the room.
